Dr. Pobzeb Vang
Dr. Pobzeb Vang was a Hmong American scholar, human rights activist, and one of the earliest Hmong PhDs in the United States, known for dedicating more than 25 years to documenting and fighting human rights abuses against the Lao and Hmong people. He earned his Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Denver. He became a leading voice at the United Nations, the U.S. Congress, and international human rights forums, where he testified repeatedly about the genocide and persecution occurring in Laos. He founded the Lao Human Rights Council, served as its first executive director, and published some of the earliest scholarly works on Hmong political and human rights issues. His advocacy contributed to halting the forced repatriation of Hmong refugees from Thailand and helped thousands resettle safely in the United States.
