Doua Moua
Doua Moua is a Hmong American actor and writer best known for his breakout role as Spider in Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino (2008) and as Po in Disney’s live-action Mulan (2020). Born in a Thai refugee camp to Hmong parents who fled Laos after the civil war, he grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he discovered acting through choir and community theater. His career accomplishments include not only appearing in major Hollywood films but also writing and producing The Harvest, a groundbreaking drama centered on Hmong American family life and traditions. Moua’s contributions to the Hmong community lie in his efforts to bring Hmong representation into mainstream cinema, telling authentic diaspora stories, and inspiring younger generations to pursue creative careers.
