Chenue Her
Chenue Her made history in 2021 by becoming the first male Hmong American news anchor in the United States when he joined the morning news team at ABC affiliate WOI Local 5 News in Des Moines, Iowa. Raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, by parents who were Hmong refugees, Her built a distinguished journalism career that spans major coverage across the country—including reporting on the 2020 presidential election, the COVID-19 pandemic, and critical local news—which earned him multiple Iowa Broadcast News Association awards and a Midwest Regional Emmy Award. In 2024, he returned to his home state to anchor the FOX 9 Morning News in the Twin Cities, continuing his status as the nation's only male Hmong news anchor. Beyond his professional milestones, Her has actively contributed to the Hmong and broader Asian American communities as an advocate for diversity in broadcast journalism. As an active member of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA)—for which he received the 2022 AAJA National Community Impact Award—he mentors aspiring journalists, champions authentic representation, and uses his platform to highlight community-focused narratives that celebrate AAPI voices and history.
