Maiv Muas Kwm

Maiv Muas Kwm (widely known in the West as Mai Moua Kue) was a legendary Hmong female vocalist whose beautiful voice and profound songs left an enduring mark on Hmong entertainment. During her life, she made three highly recognizable contributions to the Hmong community:

  1. Pioneering classic romantic ballads: She wrote and performed "Puas Nco Kev Sib Hlub", which became one of the most famous, influential, and frequently covered romantic tracks in Hmong music history.
  2. Elevating Hmong cinema soundtrack culture: Her signature song gained massive legendary status across generations after being featured in the iconic Hmong-Thai dubbed film Lis Ceeb Thiab Maiv Xis.
  3. Using her music to champion bold social messages: She was respected as a deeply influential voice and inspiration for Hmong women, boldly utilizing her musical platform to speak out against polygamy and advocate for women's independence.

The Hmong music community lost one of its most cherished icons on July 24, 2022, when Maiv Muas Kwm (known in the U.S. as Mai Moua Kue) passed away at the age of 51 after a brave battle with breast cancer. Having lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan, since immigrating to the United States in the late 1980s, her sudden departure deeply saddened generations of Hmong families who had grown up comforted by her soulful, distinct voice. Though her life ended far too soon, the outpouring of love and tributes following her death underscored her status as a true legend and superstar who permanently shaped the Hmong entertainment landscape.
